While most working Marana residents drive to the Tucson metro area for their jobs, it is not entirely necessary to work outside of Marana. The town's history of well-planned annexations has brought about an economic expansion that offers many local employment opportunities. Marana's southern district is near Tucson and is the primary commercial business. The industrial park on I-10 features several corporate businesses as well as the Tucson region's CBS affiliate. The recently annexed Marana Northwest Regional Airport and its planned improvements are sure to make that area a growing commercial center, as well as offering more employment outlets for Marana residents who wish to live and work in town. These are just a few of the reasons Marana real estate is increasing in popularity among savvy investors.
Nearly 13,000 students comprise the 17 schools in the Marana Unified School District, which proudly claims student achievement scores which rank consistently higher than state and national averages. Marana's education system also employs nearly 2,000 employees. Within the 17 schools are nine award winning "A+" schools and three National Blue Ribbon schools. Higher education is also available close-by, with the University of Arizona only 17 miles from Marana, and with several other colleges between 20 and 90 miles from Marana, including Pima Community College and Central Arizona College.
